AI Tool Access & Routing

From ChatGPT in a browser to coding in Cursor, check the service region first, then verify the exit route and proxy path. A page loading successfully does not guarantee that sign-in, streaming or API calls will work.

Why do AI requests fail in an editor when ChatGPT works in a browser?

Troubleshooting steps ›

Check the app's proxy settings first, then confirm API availability in your region. Browsers, terminals and IDEs may use different exit routes. A successful connection does not guarantee the account has the required access.

route-check › A working webpage is not a complete connection test

Follow these steps to check your setup

This diagram illustrates the routing check sequence only. Tool availability, account eligibility and access are subject to each platform's current policies.

Network Requirements for AI Tools

Regional availability, exit IP reputation and connection stability are separate issues. Repeatedly switching routes won't identify the cause.

Regional availability does not guarantee account eligibility

AI platforms may consider the exit IP's location, account details, organization settings and product availability when deciding whether to provide access. Availability can also differ between web, desktop and API products. Before choosing a route, check the official supported-region information for the specific product instead of treating one country's route as a universal solution. A network service can change your network path, but it cannot grant account eligibility, paid access or organization authorization required by a platform.

Your exit IP can affect verification and risk checks

An exit IP may be shared by multiple users. If a platform detects unusual request patterns, logins from different regions in a short period or other risk signals, it may request additional verification or temporarily reject requests. This does not necessarily mean the route is offline, and one verification prompt alone does not prove that an account is restricted. Keep the same exit route during a session, pause automatic retries and save the error message. Avoid routinely clearing all browser data or switching regions repeatedly.

Streaming output needs a persistent connection

Text appearing gradually usually means the client is continuously receiving data from the server. A broken link, proxy timeout, device sleep or buffering by an intermediary network device can interrupt output. Some apps also rely on persistent connections such as WebSockets. When testing a route, check whether a real task completes rather than whether the homepage loads. Model load and platform queues can also cause delays, so switching routes may not speed up processing.

Requirements by Tool and Route

Use these points as troubleshooting guidance, not as a promise of availability. Platform policies and product access may change; check official information before use.

Choose a network route for the task
Tool Check first Route requirements Common misconception
ChatGPT Product availability, sign-in session and streaming response Exit region meets current requirements, stays consistent throughout the session and supports continuous responses Assuming that if the homepage loads, chat and API access must work too
Claude Regional eligibility, account verification and long-form output Consistent exit location, no mid-session route changes, and reachable upload and response paths Attributing repeated risk checks to bandwidth alone
Gemini Account type, product availability by region and organization policies Match the product's supported region and route sign-in domains correctly Overlooking account age requirements or organization restrictions
Copilot Specific product access, account permissions and app proxy settings Cover sign-in and service requests; ensure the desktop app uses the selected exit Confusing Microsoft Copilot permissions with GitHub Copilot permissions
Midjourney Web or Discord access, account permissions and image assets Reachable interactive requests and image assets; a stable connection during downloads Assuming everything works because the text interface loads, while image assets fail
Cursor IDE proxy, sign-in callback, model requests and organization policies The editor process uses the proxy, streaming responses remain connected and relevant service domains are reachable Assuming the IDE automatically inherits the browser's proxy settings

For ChatGPT and Claude web chat, test the full exchange: send a prompt, wait for the response to finish, then check that follow-up messages work. If the page loads but file uploads fail, troubleshoot upload requests separately. If text works but images do not appear, check the asset requests rather than concluding that the model service is unavailable.

Different Gemini entry points may have different eligibility requirements. Access through a personal account, an organization account or a developer API does not prove that the others are available. Copilot is not a single product either: the browser assistant and GitHub Copilot in a code editor may use different sign-in identities, permissions and network requests. Specify the exact product when troubleshooting.

Midjourney access and features depend on what is available in your account. With Cursor, check account sign-in, editor connectivity and model responses separately. If you use your own API key, also verify upstream API permissions and billing status; a network route cannot meet these requirements for you.

Keep the same exit route during sign-in

These account checks apply to AI platforms. VPNDeep accounts and AI platform accounts are managed separately.

Before signing in, confirm that the tool is available in your selected region, then connect to the relevant route. Keep the sign-in page, identity provider and authorization callback on the same network path. If only the main page uses the proxy while sign-in redirects take another route, you may pass verification and still end up back at the sign-in page. When using a browser extension, system proxy or client-side routing rules, make sure they cover the entire sign-in flow.

If an existing account repeatedly asks for verification, stop submitting requests in a loop. Check that your system clock is correct, the browser allows the site's required cookies and privacy extensions are not blocking sign-in resources. You can compare results in a separate browser profile, but don't clear your existing session before confirming you can recover it. If the platform says your account or region is ineligible, follow its official process.

Use accurate account details and follow platform terms. Avoid purchased shared accounts, and never give session cookies, sign-in verification codes or API keys to anyone operating your account. VPNDeep requires no email address; create an account with a username and password. This applies to VPNDeep only and does not mean other AI platforms have the same account requirements.

Switching routes can help isolate network issues. It cannot guarantee that you pass a platform's risk checks or change your account region, payment eligibility or organization access policies.

Check Web and API Access Separately

Being able to chat on the website does not mean you have API access. A web subscription should not be assumed to include API credits.

Browser requests may use a system proxy, extension or client routing rules, while a program may use its own networking library. API calls also require the correct endpoint, authentication method, project permissions, model access and billing status. If the website works but a program returns an error, first check which endpoint it is calling and where it is running, then decide whether the route needs to change.

Connection timeouts, DNS resolution failures and certificate validation errors point more toward a network path or runtime issue. If the server returns an authentication, permission, quota or rate-limit error, focus on the key, account and request policy instead. Interpret status codes alongside the response body and official documentation; don't draw conclusions from the code alone. Never paste a real key into a public forum to test a route.

For streaming API requests, check that the client reads the response as a stream and that the application server, reverse proxy or corporate gateway is not buffering it. If the full response arrives at once but no incremental output appears, the issue may be in the application chain rather than the international route itself. Before retrying, confirm whether the original request already ran to avoid duplicate charges.

For troubleshooting, keep the time, tool name, error text and a redacted request ID. Remove authorization headers, keys, account details and business content before sharing logs. Network service charges and model service charges are separate; VPNDeep data is not a model usage allowance.

Proxy Routes in a Developer Environment

The command line, IDE and CI may run in different environments from your browser. Find the execution environment first, then identify its exit route.

Command line: Check settings inherited by the current process

Some command-line tools read HTTP_PROXY, HTTPS_PROXY or ALL_PROXY; others accept only their own settings. Check the tool's documentation for supported variable names, proxy protocols and authentication. A running terminal or program may not pick up environment variables set afterward, so you may need to restart the relevant process. Also check whether NO_PROXY unintentionally excludes the target domain.

Containers, subsystems and remote servers each have their own network boundaries. A local proxy address on the host may point to the container itself when used inside a container. Don't copy someone else's port or listening address blindly; check the actual settings in your client and configure a reachable route for your environment. Ask your administrator about certificates and proxy policies on corporate devices. Don't disable certificate checks just to force a request through.

IDE plugins: Distinguish the editor from remote extension processes

Editor tools such as Cursor and GitHub Copilot may use browser-based authorization, in-app requests and background extension processes. Check the editor's own proxy settings and confirm whether plugins use the same configuration. With remote development, containers or remote hosts, model requests may originate remotely; connecting your local device to VPNDeep does not mean the remote environment uses the same exit route.

If sign-in succeeds but autocomplete fails, check the plugin output logs for the target service and point of failure, then verify account permissions, organization policies and model access. Proxy changes are useful only after you identify the process making the request. Avoid enabling multiple overlapping proxy configurations at once, or it will be hard to tell which route produced a successful result.

CI: Handle runner egress and secret management separately

CI jobs send requests from the runner's network; they do not automatically inherit your development computer's connection. Hosted and self-hosted runners have different egress controls. Before configuring a route, check service availability, network policies and organization requirements. Set up a proxy only in an approved environment, and store model keys in the CI secret manager—not in the repository, build artifacts or echoed commands.

Automation should also follow platform request limits and distinguish retryable connection failures from account errors that need human attention. Log the failure stage, not the full sensitive request. If the runner is unsuitable for the product, change the deployment setup instead of treating constant exit-route switching as a long-term strategy.

Common Failures and Causes

Save the original error, then change one condition at a time to compare results. Changing the region, browser and account all at once makes the clues harder to interpret.

ChatGPT won't load, but other sites work. What should I check?

First determine whether the domain fails to resolve, the connection times out, page assets are missing or the platform explicitly denies access. Check whether routing rules cover the target domain and review the platform's official service status. Other working sites show only that some network access is available. If you see a regional availability message, also check the product's supported regions and your account eligibility.

Claude or ChatGPT stops mid-response. Is the route too slow?

Not necessarily. Device sleep, a route change, proxy timeout, platform outage or app processing error can all interrupt a response. Keep the exit route unchanged and test with a simple prompt that contains no sensitive information. Check whether other ongoing requests stopped at the same time. Save the exact error text rather than noting only that it got stuck.

Gemini says my account isn't eligible. Would switching regions help?

Check whether the message refers to account eligibility, organization policy or product availability. Network region is only one factor; switching routes won't change your account type or organization permissions. If the platform says you are ineligible, follow its official guidance instead of repeatedly trying to sign in.

Cursor sign-in works, but chat and code completion fail. How can I troubleshoot?

Check the editor and plugin output logs to see whether the failure is in the model request, authentication or a resource connection. Verify app proxy settings, account permissions and where any remote extension process runs. If you use your own key, also check the upstream endpoint and billing status. Successful browser sign-in does not replace these checks.

The API reports a rate limit or insufficient quota. Should I switch routes?

Check the response body for project quota, balance, model access and request frequency first. Switching routes usually won't resolve account-level quota issues. Avoid repeated automatic retries. If a shared exit triggers a risk alert, follow the platform's rules rather than trying to evade its restrictions.

Midjourney loads, but images won't. What could be wrong?

Image assets may come from a different domain than the page. Check failed browser requests, routing rules for asset domains and local content-blocking rules, then confirm whether the platform is still generating the task. A text page loading does not prove the image download path is working.

Choose a Route and Data Plan for Your Needs

Test the full workflow for the tools you use before choosing a route and plan. Don't judge by a single successful homepage load.

For web chat, start with a route in a region where the tool is currently available. Keep the same exit route throughout the session and test sign-in, sending a prompt, receiving the full response and file features in sequence. If you mainly use an IDE or API, include the actual execution environment in your checks: test the local terminal, editor, container and remote runner separately. For long tasks, prioritize connection stability over frequent region changes in search of a momentary improvement.
